Stage lighting rig over a Bay Area theater — designed and installed by YKCA

Stage & Architectural Lighting

Light that shapes the moment — and the power behind it.

A rig is only as good as its power and its hang. YKCA designs, installs, and focuses the lighting — and as a licensed C-10 contractor we run every circuit, dimmer rack, and overhead structure in-house.

Why It Matters

Lighting sets the emotion. The rig sets the ceiling.

Most lighting vendors hand off a fixture list and leave the power and rigging to someone else. That split creates coordination gaps: conduit that conflicts with truss positions, circuits sized for the wrong dimmer rack, an overhead structure that can't carry the actual rig weight. YKCA closes that gap — we engineer the fixtures, the hang, and the power as one system.

From an intimate black-box theater to a 2,000-seat concert hall, the design principle is the same: light that serves the performance, supported by infrastructure that won't let the room down on show night.

Capabilities

What we deliver.

Stage & Event Lighting

Front light, backlight, side fill, specials — a complete stage rig designed for the room and the repertoire.

Moving Lights & Effects

Beam, spot, and wash movers; LED strobes; haze and atmospheric — dynamic looks without manual repositioning.

Architectural & Accent

Lobby, facade, and interior accent lighting that performs after the curtain, not only during it.

Dimming & DMX / Network Control

Dimmer racks, sACN/Art-Net infrastructure, console integration — full control from a single booth.

House & Work Lighting

House-down presets, worklights, egress — the lights around the show, fully integrated into the control system.

Design, Focus & Programming

Full lighting design service: drawings, pre-viz, on-site focus session, and console programming hand-off.

The rig is only as good as its power and its hang.

Most lighting vendors stop at the fixture. YKCA runs the conduit, sizes the dimmer circuits, rigs the overhead structure, and signs the inspection — one team, one accountable scope, from the drawing to the final focus.

FAQ

Lighting questions, straight answers.

Static fixtures — fresnels, lekos, PARs — excel at wash and zone coverage that stays consistent through a performance. Moving lights add dynamic color, gobo, and beam changes that can shift the look between acts or moments without a crew touching a fixture. For most theaters and venues, a hybrid rig works best: static as the backbone, a handful of moving heads for signature looks. We design the rig to match the type of programming your room actually does, not the largest possible rig.

DMX-512 is the industry standard protocol that lets a lighting console address each fixture individually — intensity, color, position, gobo. Networked control (sACN, Art-Net) extends this over standard Ethernet, so a single console can run hundreds of universes across a large venue without miles of dedicated cable. We design the data infrastructure alongside the fixtures, so your control booth can talk to every light in the room reliably.

LED fixtures use 60–80% less power than their tungsten equivalents and generate far less heat — a meaningful difference in venues without theatrical HVAC. Most new installs are fully LED. Retrofit projects are assessed fixture-by-fixture: where color quality and dimmer curve matter (theater drama, houses of worship), we recommend quality RGBW LED that matches or exceeds tungsten performance. We do not push LED where incandescent is still the right tool.

No. As a licensed C-10 contractor, YKCA handles the entire electrical scope in-house — dimmer racks, circuit distribution, company switch tie-ins, and any new circuits or panels the rig requires. Our crew also rigs the trusses and overhead structures. You get one accountable team from the lighting design drawing through the final focus and inspection sign-off.

Yes. For larger installs and productions we build the rig in pre-visualization software (Capture, Depence) so the LD can program cues and check looks before a single fixture goes in the air. This shortens expensive on-site programming time and catches placement or coverage problems early. Pre-viz is included in full design commissions; it is available as a separate service for installs designed elsewhere.
