Holiday Lighting Design — On-Site Walk, Color Coordination & Scene Programming

An on-site design walk to plan exactly what gets lit, how it looks, and how it is controlled — color and brightness coordination, smart-controller scene programming, and photo mock-ups for HOA approval where needed.

Design Before Installation

Know exactly what it will look like before a single string goes up.

A good holiday lighting design is not just about where to hang strings — it is about what to emphasize and what to leave unlit, how colors and brightness interact across a facade or landscape, and how a smart controller organizes it all into scenes you actually use. The design walk is where we answer those questions before any installation work starts.

We walk the property with you, assess the architectural features worth highlighting, identify where existing outdoor circuits are and where we may need to add them, and map out a color and brightness plan for the full display. For smart-controller installs we discuss the scenes you want programmed — everyday warm white, holiday palettes, event modes — and confirm app connectivity and scheduling before we leave.

For HOA properties, we can produce photo mock-ups of the proposed design for board submission, which simplifies approval and prevents scope changes mid-install.

Part of our holiday lighting service — same insured C-10 crew, GFCI-protected outdoor circuits, $200 service call credited to the job.

What's Included

Design Consultation, end to end.

The design consultation produces a clear plan — what gets lit, how it looks, and what the install will require electrically.

On-Site Design Walk

Walk the property together: rooflines, eaves, architectural features, trees, and walkways assessed for what to include and what to skip.

Color & Brightness Coordination

Color palette and brightness balance planned across the full facade and landscape — so the finished display looks intentional, not assembled piece by piece.

Smart-Controller Scene Planning

Scenes for the smart controller mapped out in advance: everyday white, holiday themes, event modes, and scheduling — programmed into the controller during install.

Circuit Assessment

Existing outdoor outlet locations mapped; any new GFCI circuit needs identified and quoted before install day — no surprises on the day of installation.

HOA Photo Mock-Ups

Rendered photo mock-ups of the proposed display for HOA board submission where required — so approval is in hand before install day.

How It Works

From design walk to next-season reinstall.

Every holiday lighting project — seasonal or permanent — runs the same electrician-led, accountable workflow.

1

On-Site Design Walk

We walk the property, plan what to light, check exterior circuits, and confirm access and lift needs. The $200 service-call fee is credited to the job.

2

Custom Layout & Fixed Quote

A measured layout, color and brightness plan, and a fixed written quote — including any GFCI circuit work needed, added under our C-10 license.

3

Professional Install

Our insured W-2 crew installs to code on GFCI-protected circuits, programs the smart controller, and cleans up — no extension cords through a window screen.

4

Takedown, Storage & Reinstall

January takedown is included; strings are labeled and bagged for a faster, cheaper reinstall next season. Permanent LED systems stay up year-round.

Why YKCA for Holiday Lighting

Holiday lights installed by a licensed electrical contractor.

Most holiday installers are seasonal crews that run extension cords and disappear in February. YKCA does holiday lighting year-round as part of a standard C-10 electrical practice.

Licensed C-10 Contractor

Not a pop-up seasonal crew. Permitted, code-compliant exterior wiring under CSLB C-10 — verifiable on cslb.ca.gov.

100% W-2 & Insured Lift

Direct employees, insured for multi-story lift work — no day-labor, no liability gaps on your roof.

GFCI-Protected Circuits

Every string runs on a code-compliant, weather-sealed GFCI outdoor circuit — we add outlets under our license where needed.

Takedown & Storage Included

January takedown, labeled bins, and faster reinstall next year — included in the seasonal package, not an add-on surprise.

Smart-Controller Programming

Timer or phone-app control programmed before we leave — schedules and scenes ready to use without going outside.

One Accountable Contractor

One crew, one quote, one warranty — from the design walk through install and takedown. No subcontractor hand-offs.

FAQ

Design Consultation questions, straight answers.

We walk the property with you and assess the architecture, landscape, and existing outdoor electrical. We discuss what to highlight, what colors and brightness levels suit the property, and what smart-controller scenes make sense for your use. By the end of the walk you have a clear picture of what the install will look like and what it will cost.

The $200 service-call fee covers the design walk and assessment. If you proceed with the installation, the $200 is applied directly to your project total — so it is not an extra cost for customers who book the install.

Yes. For HOA properties we produce photo mock-ups of the proposed design. This gives the board a concrete visual to review rather than a description, and it prevents scope changes after installation has started.

Not necessarily. For straightforward roofline-only installs on standard homes, we can often scope the work during an initial site visit combined with the quote. The dedicated design consultation is most valuable for larger properties, HOA common areas, commercial facades, or projects where smart-controller scenes and color coordination are important.

Yes. If you are considering Trimlight or Jellyfish, the design walk covers both the aesthetic plan and the electrical assessment for a permanent system — same $200 service-call fee, applied to the permanent install if you proceed.
